SALT AYRE LEAGUE - WEEK 15

Sprint for 3rd

Conditions were atrocious for week 15 of Salt Ayre League but despite the flooding in Lancashire and Cumbria, racing went on in Lancaster.

Returning from Dubai, via some racing in Belgium, Jamie Shirlaw was riding his first event in Britain this year and attacked from the start taking Andrew Pickering with him and staying away.

With these riders teams blocking Julian tried to bridge the gap alone and almost made it but it was too big an ask for a lone rider. Steve and Julian then made sure they were either in every move or kept them to a distance they could close.

In the closing laps Jack Cousins attacked with James Dunlop sitting on and the bunch somehow split with Julian trapped in the back half. Julian made another big solo effort to bridge the gap then Steve closed on the escapees so they were both were in contention for 3rd. They couldn’t beat James Dunlop who had the advantage of an easier ride with his team-mate in the break but Julian, despite his earlier efforts, took an excellent 4th and Steve a consistent 5th, ahead of nearest overall rival Calum Nicholson, to consolidate his 3rd place in the League.
